MISS WORLD PUNJABAN - 2002


Ratti Brar of Muktsar, Village Doda, was all smiles on being crowned as queen of Punjabans held on 30th Nov. 2002. The 55 tall and student of GCW, Patiala. She hogged the limelight with her stunning looks and left the spectators spell bound with her dazzling dance performance. She is votary of 60 meters of Ghagra instead of short jeans. A strong opponent of female foeticide, she impressed a battery of journalists with her views. She made the entire audiance swing on the tunes of Satwinder Bittis song Tainu Dasna Patola Ban Ke Ve.
The gracious presence of Bhupinderjit Sidhu from Sangrur and her rythmic performance on the tunes of the song Paase Hat Ja Jaalma Punjaban Jatti Aayee compelled the viewers to hold their breath and she was justifiably adjudged the first runner up. The charming damsal from Mandi Dabwali, Haryana, Harsangeet Pal Sandhu performed an exceptional dance squence on the tunes of Jutti Tille Di Matakdi Laini Tor Punjaban Di sung by Late Jagmohan Kaur and was unanimously crowned the second runner up. Besides this, Mandeep Chadha of Delhi was given the title of Mrig Naini. Ekta Rai of Bangalore won the Gidhian Di Rani title, whereas, Amandeep Dhillon was given the title of Beautiful Smile. Jasdeep Sandhu of Patti bagged the Gunwanti Punjaban award. Beautiful Bride award was bagged by Amandeep Saggu of Amritsar, while Davinder Kaur of Ludhiana was chosen for Beautiful Hair title.
But it was singer-actor Harbhajan Mann all the way. He was so much fascinated by the presentation of the event that he was all praises for this unique show. He was presented with Mahaan Punjabi Award for his contribution to Punjabi culture and cinema.
Media coverage of the event crossed all boundaries. Months before the event, it created such a big hype that it become talk of thetown. Everybody was in the know of this big event. Channels vied with each other to cover this unique show in a vibrant manner. Balle Balle music channel telecast the event in all its splendour while all other news channels thought it a pride to splash the finer points of the show in their news, features and interviews.
No doubt, Miss WORLD PANJABAN 2002 happened to be the biggest Punjabi cultural show of the whole world.
